Dear Community Members,
I am writing with regret to inform you of the resignation of Ghent Town Board Member Lynda Nielsen, announced by Town Supervisor Craig Simmons on November 20th. Lynda stepped down to care for her son, who suffered a very serious accident in August. Our thoughts are with Lynda and her family, and we hope for her son’s continued recovery. It is important that Lynda knows our community stands with her during this difficult time.
Although our main concern remains with Lynda and her family, the Town Board must move forward in filling the vacant seat. As a community, we should approach this transition with respect for Lynda’s service and for the democratic process.
I encourage residents to write to the Town Board in support of honoring the results of the November 4th election. Penny Coulson-Sanchez received the third-highest number of votes, and in my view, she should be appointed to fill the vacancy.
Appointing the next highest vote-getter upholds the will of the voters and promotes fairness and continuity. My opponents campaigned on bipartisanship and choosing the best person for the job; this is an opportunity for them to stand by that message.
If you agree, please consider sending a letter urging the Board to appoint Penny Coulson-Sanchez to fill the vacancy. I also encourage you to attend the next Town Board meeting at 7 p.m. on December 18th to show your support.
Supervisor Simmons’ email: csimmons@townofghent.org
Town Clerk Radley’s email: mradley@townofghent.org
Letters may also be mailed to Ghent Town Board, PO Box 98 Ghent NY 12075
Your participation is greatly appreciated as we continue to serve our community with integrity and transparency.
Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and active engagement.
Sincerely,
Carl Quinn
Town Councilperson-Elect
